I’m waiting to buy the AMD Phoenix/HawkPoint variant of Thinkpad E14 G6 and E16 G2.

Because Thinkpads will be sold without any OS by default at least in my country, and also because Lenovo is introducing some degree of modularity in the newer generations again, it becomes a preferable choice as a Linux laptop for me.

But I’ve read somewhere that the build quality of E is bad, and that I should look into P/L series. Opinions on this? I am especially worried about the hinge - that went down so fast in my ideapad.

The P series and the L series are two very different beasts. I think you mean the P*s and the T series.

The “real” P series are the P16 full fat cost is no object workstation, and the P1 is the MacBook. There’s the P14/16s models which are just T series machines with a Quadro GPUs instead of regular GeForce models. (They may have discontinued the dGPUs in the T series I’m not sure)

That said I can’t speak for the quality of the modern E or L series. I know older ones are garbage compared to thinkpads, but good compare to normal consumer grade sludge.
