My daily driver was 6.06 up to 8.x I think. Only had minor encounters with it since. And here I am still fooling myself into thinking „I’m pretty familiar with Ubuntu“ 😅

I’m skilled with IT stuff (I guess many are on here) but have plenty of that at work and a highly varying degree of time for such things based on what’s happening in life. I guess the more handheld something is the more I fear it might break when I absolutely don’t have time or mental capacity to deal with it. I’m getting quite comfy with how well the Synology works. It’s kind of weird there isn’t a “pay up and just extend the synology into the cloud automagically” - it all sounds adding more possible failure sources.

Do they have any bundle offers like Apple One? It really adds up quickly. I’m honestly hoping for some Black Friday deals that reduce the cost for whatever I end up choosing.

Actually have Jellyfin running on the NAS and am starting to get back into “in-home streaming” - but I also want to maybe stream a show while traveling.

So far the NAS is not reachable from the internet and knowing how many threats lurk out there I’m sort of happy with that. I still want to do backups as well es find photos when I’m e.g. visiting family or simply traveling.

Sort of. It’s definitely worse since Covid with the majority of “local” events being online either way. And where I live now it’s much quieter than where I used to live.

I really need local interest groups. For example a local skating community or local hardware selling group - that’s only Facebook today unfortunately.

I’d rather have a smaller but somewhat predictable group of peers I grow to somewhat respect and trust than being confronted by thousands of random strangers that are there for mere “engagemen” but not for helping each other out or saying nice things.

I tried Threads and it was horrible. Honestly not using Mastodon that much. But maybe that format is just not my thing.

I really miss repairable devices. Repairing the cracked screen of the iPad Pro I bought a few years ago would cost over 60% of the price I paid for the device. I would have gladly taken a thicker device if that meant it were repairable.

I’d love to use Signal exclusively and recommend it or move over group chats wherever possible. But some friends and family keep me on WhatsApp and messenger. IMHO using those less is better than using them a lot and having more apps is better than socially isolating yourself.

Especially excited bout the medium screen sizes. I like my small eReader but sometimes need something larger for PDFs and to make highlighting and searching easier in non-fiction books. The giant tablet I am typing this on is nice for web and video, but it’s just too massive for reading and it appears tablets have the seem problem as smartphones with becoming ever bigger.

I’m not personally coding with them, just often supporting people and their projects that do. Keras is also popular but I’ve at least personally seen slightly shoddier implementations with it. That could be selection bias though.

Maybe find some code to look at on the HuggingFace hub page? HuggingFace libraries or PyTorch are likely to give you really good learning opportunities and examples. Just keep an eye out for timestamps of articles or version numbers. And of course use venv/conda/… to not mess up your version when trying out different things 😉
