  • Yeah I get it. It turns out subscription services are everywhere and have been for quite some time so there’s no need to really inform people about the pros and cons at this point.

Sure I don’t own the games. But then again, I don’t tend to replay old games ever. There are SO MANY new games coming out all the time, I’ve never understood the urge to go back and replay an old game. Chances are there’s a new game out there that’s the same idea but better.

My only point here is that GamePass Ultimate is basically paying more to have access on Windows AND Xbox and I don’t use the Windows version anymore. It will save me money when it’s time to renew. Hooray linux!

  • It’s one of my only regrets from switching to linux full time last summer: the PC side of my GamePass Ultimate subscription is now useless because it requires Windows. I get it, but it still bums me out.

On the plus side, I prepaid using some crazy scam/exploit/deal/whatever from SlickDeals so it cost me like less than $100 for three years. And since I still use it on my Xbox regularly, I feel like it was still a… <glasses>… slick deal.

  • LoL is the poster child for toxic community. The game is fantastic but it’s really not worth playing because the other people ruin the fun.

It really only takes one person to ruin a match and you’re always playing with 9 other people (in the “main” game mode). Because of the way ranking work, leaving early because of a troll actually punishes you so you are incentivized to stay in a game that you’re not enjoying. It makes people cranky and they tend to take it out on internet strangers.

And for some reason, only in LoL do they seem to feel free to use the most despicable language you can imagine.

Anyways, there are other games in the same genre if you want to try them. DOTA2 is the obvious one, though I personally think it’s a worse game than LoL. The Blizzard one was really good but it was shut down IIRC.

  • I have Edge installed via Flatpak and the cloud gaming worked perfectly. Shockingly well, really. Unfortunately, it requires a controller and doesn’t support KBM, which is kinda counterproductive for me since I can just use my Xbox to play with controller.

Oh well, it’s a step in the right direction. Maybe they’ll get KBM support going in the future. I’ll keep an eye on it. Thx again!

  • Technically, I am still setup to dual boot to Windows. But now that I’ve been off it for months, I really don’t want to go back even for “free” games. It feels like a triumph to be off it and every day I don’t go back into it when I can easily dual boot feels like a big middle finger to MS. I’ve been finding different ways to do that since the 80’s when I used DR-DOS instead of MS-DOS. :-D

  • I didn’t realize there was a cloud gaming option. I have Edge installed for work stuff (Teams and Outlook web) so I’ll look into that option. Thanks!

EDIT - Looked into it, works surprisingly well! EXCEPT it requires a controller. Kinda the whole reason I want to play on my computer is to use KBM, otherwise I’ll just use the ol Xbox. Oh well, maybe they’ll improve it in the future. It’s still a beta in theory.
