It’s likely to just be some randos doing it for the lulz and IA was vulnerable for whatever reason. Book publishers have sadly been enjoying plenty of success in court against IA. They don’t need to get their hands dirty.

Yeah, I’ve see people speculating that it could be some corporate hit-job on behalf of book publishers, and I get it, that exotic possibility is attractive, but reality is usually much more mundane. It’s likely to just be some randos doing it for the lulz and IA was vulnerable for whatever reason. Book publishers have sadly been enjoying plenty of success in court against IA. They also released two “inspired by the movie hackers” albums that were just as good!
Nice username.
“Mess with the best, die like the rest.”
I neither said nor implied any such thing. You brought up books written in the 1800s which is why my initial reply specifically focused on the 19th century. You’re either dumb or you’re here in bad faith, but based on your last sentence, being a weak attempt to shift the conversation from LGBTQ and non-binary people to pederasts, which is straight out of the right-wing playbook, it’s safe to assume the latter. So we’re done here.
OP received a 3 day temporary ban for violating the instance’s rule against transphobia. That in no way, shape, or form, constitutes a moderator “power trip.”
Yes, homosexuality and non-gender conforming individuals have existed throughout human history and across all cultures with varying social attitudes toward them. You know, you’re quite opinionated for someone with no demonstrable understanding of the topic, but I suppose that explains a lot.
Have you ever wondered why that is? LGBTQ and non-binary people existed in the 19th century too, they just weren’t safe to live as they chose to publicly. And when it was mentioned in literature it was typically couched in euphemisms of the period. I understand that you’d clearly prefer all these people go back in the closet rather than be inconvenienced by having to acknowledge their existence, but are you really daft enough to think this is something dreamed up in the 2010s? For fuck sake…
Lmao. So OP is unwilling to show others the simple courtesy of respecting their gender identity then comes running here to whine about dIsReSpeCt because their bigoted hot take got them a three day ban from a community. 🙄
Edit: Ooooh and they’re on a three day old account too? In that case I give it an hour or two before they realize they aren’t getting any sympathy here and run to r/RedditAlternatives to complain about “censorship” on Lemmy and lament the lack of freeze peach reddit alternatives.
Lol thank you for making that, I had that meme in mind while I was writing that reply.
I mean, I do have RGB lights but it’s not because I’m a software engineer. I’m just a dork.
I feel like Bluesky is always going to be the fediverse with training wheels. And as you pointed out, these folks aren’t using Twitter, so that’s a good start. All we can do is hope one day these people will start exploring the full range of opportunities available to them in the actual fediverse.
I do, and I think it’s just kinda “okay”. The main thing I like about Bluesky right now is the experimental “threaded mode” which makes following conversations a lot easier for me. I’ve always been more of a Reddit kinda guy than a Twitter user so nested/threaded comments are preferable.
Having said that, as far as microblogging platforms go, I find mastodon in conjunction with the smart lists feature on the Mammoth app for iOS to be a much better resource for following news and finding interesting accounts.
Hack the planet!
Yeah, being able to use Lemmy from Mastodon is great in theory but it’s terrible in practice. I’ve been using Mastodon since 2019 but wouldn’t waste my time trying to use Lemmy with that account. The experience just sucks for mastodon users and lemmy users alike. Fortunately, I’ve somehow managed to figure out how to juggle two separate accounts lol.
It’s been invite-only for all five and a half years I’ve been there so I wouldn’t expect that to ever change. Fortunately it’s really easy to get an invite code. Just post in the official subreddit and the mods or another user will give you a code. It’s just enough of a minor roadblock that it helps filter out bad actors.
Personally I prefer Lemmy. But if you’re like OP and looking for conversation focused alternatives tildes is worth joining.
That’s such a cool idea for a Halloween costume.
