Chat GPT is wonderful as a search engine for SO. It regurgitates the answers in a format easier to incorporate into your own project.

The thing I’m worried about is a lack of new answers. You need data to train an LLM, what to do if nobody is producing it?

Makes sense from manufacturing and business perspective to refresh your offer every year. It doesn’t have to be a huge improvement, but technology slowly advances, there might be a better or cheaper manufacture for some components, etc.

On the other hand there no reason for any individual to be buying a new phone so often. Software support must be a thing - there’s no reason for a phone to become obsolete after 2 years because of the software. It’s a computer, you can update the OS almost indefinitely.

The only thing changed between photos is clothing and pose. Is that gender? Well maybe it is, but it’s useless for classification.

It’s such a harmful aspect of American culture not just in this case - they treat White and Black people as fundamentally different and separate, and each must have it’s own kind of healthcare.

I think it’s not even intentional, or not as much as claimed, but a consequence of the algorithmic bubble .

For example on Meta platforms I only get pro-palestinian content, I still haven’t seen an explicitly pro-israeli publication. But many people complain about pro-palestinian ban, so it leads me to a conclusion that it’s something else.

He really is/was smart about some things - marketing and self-promotion. He started with millions and ended up with hundreds of billions, all thanks to his marketing skills, and knowing how to be in the right place at the right time.
Being good at one thing doesn’t automatically mean he’s good at other things - like running a company, or being an engineer as he likes to imagine himself.

Um, companies wanting to charge for their services? Sure it not as nice as getting stuff for free but how else are they supposed to fund the insane cost of running LLMs along with at least some profits.

I hear this criticism all the time, but I’ve never seen it happen in 5 companies I’ve worked for so far. Usually there’s an understanding that estimates are wild guessing, and things are planned using dependencies rather than timeliness.

Currently I have WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Signal, Viber, a Matrix client (Fluffy), Discord, Slack, SMS, email.

I try to use Signal whenever I can, but convincing people to install yet another messaging app is hard. I don’t see the situation getting better, none of the major players is close to going out of business.

I’d say this is exactly where the LLMs problems with it comes from. For most of us outside of the US and even a lot of people there, it’s exactly that - a caricature of a lower class black person. However for many people it’s a legit dialect of English they speak every day.

It might also have to do with specialized vs general models. Copilot is good at generating code but ask it to write prose text and it fails completely. In contrast ChatGPT is awful at code but handles human readable text decently.

Yes actually, I can imagine it getting microcontroller code wrong. My niche is general backend services. I’ve been using Github copilot a lot and it served me well for generating unit tests. Write test description and it pops out the code with ~ 80% accuracy

AI is actually great at typing the code quickly. Once you know exactly what you want. But it’s already the case that if your engineers spend most of their time typing code, you’re doing something wrong. AI or no AI.
