Here’s hoping! Out of curiosity, what monitor is it?

Hrm. I had similar problems with my M1 Macbook Air with this monitor, and I ended up having to set the monitor to continue charging USB devices while off. Otherwise the monitor would stop charging the laptop, MacOS would wake up, and wake up the monitor.

Maybe you’re seeing similar behavior.
Btw, Phoronix just posted a review of the P14s
https://www.phoronix.com/review/thinkpad-p14s-gen4
Apparently I’m not alone in not being able to change the power profile in Linux, Lenovo broke it with a UEFI update for some Windows functionality. A fixed firmware will ship eventually, the author has a beta and confirmed it’s fixed.
Nope, I have no problem when connecting an Acer Predator X32 FP by USB-C. Are you using HDMI?
I’m not sure, are Topres hot swap compatible? I have a Leopold FC660C, myself, and an FC750R with clears. I’ve also had a Corsair with Cherry browns, and a Code with clears. I just ordered a Nuphy Halo75 with baby kangaroos.
I have no problem purchasing from Lenovo, but you may get it faster elsewhere if they actually have stock. Stuff from Lenovo will ship from China, though you can get free expedited shipping if you join their rewards program, for free. I got my P14s gen 4 AMD in 4 days, shipping to doorstep (edit: to the US midwest). It took about 11 or 12 days to ship, but that shouldn’t be taken into consideration because everyone’s orders were delayed for this brand new model.
You can get some pretty good savings in their outlet, and in their ebay store. But if you’re looking for last gen, you probably want to look around to find the best deal. It might be direct, it might not, I know people are finding Z13’s for $600 to $700 right now, which is much cheaper than Lenovo. Antonline has a first gen X1 Nano for $699 for months now, and I don’t think Lenovo has any price like that.
I’d also strongly recommend looking into the T14s, unless you need the absolute thinnest and lightest. The X1 Carbon has always had some cooling issues, and the T14s gen 3 AMD in particular is a very well balanced machine as far as size, performance, and heat/noise.
Also check to see if your company has an EPP through them, I got around $400 off an approximately $1850 laptop. They also have deals for students, teachers, and first responders, if I remember correctly.
Kernel updated today, and I lost nomodeset. So I found this:
https://www.baeldung.com/linux/grub-menu-management
I edited /etc/default/grub to remove nomodeset from GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, and then rebuilt grub2-mkconfig. That successfully removed nomodeset from older kernels that I never removed it from, so I think this should probably hold.
In Fedora 38, I had to boot the installer using basic graphics settings, or else I’d boot into a black screen. I’m not sure if that’s why, but after installing my kernel was booting with the ‘nomodeset’ parameter, which was preventing the amdgpu module from loading.
I removed nomodeset from the current kernel using grubby:
sudo grubby --remove-args="nomodeset" --update-kernel /boot/vmlinuz-6.4.13-200.fc38.x86_64
Hopefully that doesn’t get added back every time a new kernel installs. It’s been a bit since I’ve had to mess with grub.
I’m saying when there’s an opportunity to cheap out and raise margins, before disappearing into the night, a lot of “brands” will. When their Amazon reviews start reflecting that they’re shit, they’ll just discontinue that brand, and resurface with another.
Yeah, but how do you tell if a USB PD compliant charger is truly USB PD compliant? Remember that dude from Google who was reviewing USB cables, warning people off the ones with the wrong resistor?
I really wish they’d offer a 2.4ghz radio with some decent polling. The Bluetooth accessory is nice, I guess, but polling rate sucks.
Superior to anything linear, sure. But Topre and Clears would like a word. I’m looking forward to trying some Baby Kangaroos, soon.
I absolutely support this for batteries, largely because nobody reputable sells replacement laptop batteries. But I feel perfectly safe with Anker chargers, and a few others. I also mostly use a USB-C monitor these days, and have no problems after rather limited use so far. But I’d be hesitant to buy some of the cheap no-name monitors for use in the same capacity, nor the cheap Chinese charger of the week off Amazon.
The P14s has a dual heatpipe, I imagine the T14 does as well. The T14s has a wider heatpipe than the single heatpipe Intel T14 models with integrated graphics.
I believe the T14 is tuned for faster fan speeds and longer bursts than the T14s, and the P14s even moreso. So if you want quiet, get the T14s, and if you want speed get the P14s.
The T14s has two USB4 ports, the T14 and P14s only have one.
