Scandalous attack on free speech

LLMs on their own are not a viable replacement for assistants because you need a working assistant core to integrate with other services. LLM layer on top of assistants for better handling of natural language prompts is what I imagined would happen. What Gemini is doing seems ridiculous but I guess that’s Google developing multiple competing products again.
That brief moment in time when we had dirt cheap Nexus phones, Google Now and Inbox was peak Google. Just 5 years later it was all gone.
I don’t see this as a China problem. It’s a lack of regulations and oversight problem. Allied foreign powers (or one specific power to be precise) push far right via social media onto Europe as well.
That’s curious, I use Facebook a lot for local and niche interest groups and have never seen any cross-promotion of other Meta services. Probably an EU thing.
If there’s XMPP involved in that pattern then I question your recollection of events that happened. If anything this is going to be more like e-mail where commercial service providers might want to set up some obstacles to avoid spam but also hurt little guys in the process. We’ll see how that goes with EU DSA laws though.
Having own client API doesn’t affect ActivityPub compatibility.
They’ll probably pull the rug one way or another. Maybe they won’t because users could then move from Threads to a Mastodon instance that supports their favorite app and still keep in touch with all the people they follow.
If you’re reliant on third party add-ons you don’t have a choice. Bloomberg and Eikon are two examples that didn’t have a good Python API back then. Even after I started to use Python more sometimes I had to script opening up Excel itself, forcing formula refresh and exporting that.
You also need to consider that average Joe at a big financial corporation knows Excel so he uses that for everything. People that know Python are more expensive.
There are environments where Excel is used as glue that does faux-ETL for very unpredictable data which is so small in volume you don’t even consider a database. Also, database would mean MS Access which is just icky so it was used only when necessary.
I think at certain point you’re kind of expected to switch to INDEX & MATCH. I did plenty of Excel macros for work back in the day and at similar point I just switched to doing things in Python.
There’s no real harm in that unless they spam, at which point those accounts can be banned which shouldn’t overwhelm moderators.
So far we only have a corpo fedi-twitter in form of Threads. In that case non-corpo instance user has to specifically follow someone before their content is federated so that sounds like a bit overblown issue.
That’s why I keep saying it’s pointless to defederate corpos. They’ll just scrape everything before you notice.
It’s Dungeons and Dragons that did. And fidget spinners.
I was among reddit refugees a year ago and it took me a moment to notice what was going on ml and their communities were more significant in comparison to what we have today.
One of the reasons I’m on sopuli.xyz now is that it was one of the first reasonably big instances to defederate hexbear outright. Hesitance and outright hostility to defederate it from some instance admins was also worrying.
AI is not an excuse to burn fossil fuels. AI exploded and it’s energy consumption exploded, there’s lots of data to back it up. You’re saying if not for AI there would be some other excuse. What excuse would that he? Would fossil fuel industry have to invent something that would consume this much energy?
There is tangible data on how much energy it’s using.
Yeah, they’re essentially doing trials where Arizona fab provides small amounts of sillicon that’s being validated against what Taiwan fab does. While it was planned for 2024 I’m guessing everyone thought it would be delayed. It’s quite a big win for US, they’re on track to secure domestic supply of fairly modern chips in case shit hits the fan in Taiwan.
