Would YouTube get shittier if Google was broken up? I was under the understanding that YouTube is a loss leader service for Google, but I still think its one of the best social media sites on the web. Even when you consider the number of ads (that doesn’t affect a revanced user).

He’s more than capable of joining the fediverse, but he’s also a UI/UX designer. I would say his main issue with the fediverse is the amount of friction between a normie being exposed to the concept and actually signing up and engaging with it.
You have to admit that it isn’t the simplest thing to do. People have to understand the concept of the fediverse, find an instance that will accept them, sign up (with confirmation required from the instance mods) and then find out how to find communities that they are interested in.
It’s not about whether a tech-savvy person can figure it out with some effort, it’s about whether normal people can transition away from a monolithic, streamlined, social media to it.
He’s on the better side of tech reviewers IMO. I think sometimes he’s more focussed on describing what sets a product apart in the market, rather than judging whether that niche is worth filling or not.

I think we’re almost there. Probably slightly bulkier fashion needs to be normalised to make this acceptable, but the potential applications of AR are actually cool. Meta is a privacy nightmare, but they are pushing R&D in the VR space and I think its at least notable. I don’t like trusting any megacorp with my data but its going to be a big company that makes commercial AR a reality.

One size fits all classroom learning leaves many students behind, and having a personal AI tutor could really help kids fill in the gaps in their understanding that would otherwise be overlooked.
AI hallucinations is still a very real factor that limits the usefulness of this tech right now though. I magine coming into class and your tutor you had yesterday is confidently telling you the opposite of the fact that it taught you yesterday.

Oh for sure, I’m not a “This is the year of the Linux desktop” kind of person. The average person probably doesn’t care about privacy/software freedom enough, but I don’t think think it is at all insurmountable for a normal person to transition to the simpler distros if they begin to care about those things.
It almost seems like Linux Mint is the default recommend now which is better. I had a kind of buggy time with Pop OS, due to the amount of unsupported extensions you need to run to have some customisability.
OpenSUSE TW with KDE has been the best experience for me in the end.

The youtubers who paint Linux as extremely unstable/not appropriate for gaming almost come across as sponsored by Microsoft. (Not to mention the overemphasis of the ubiquity of adobe suite users i.e. confirmation bias)

That’s true, but I’d imagine running a site like twitter actively costs money. If advertisers aren’t paying, who is? Do they go to their investors and ask for money? For how long could Elon personally afford to run Twitter with all of its development costs?
I’d love to see it fail completely. I’m hoping that musk makes it a site that you have to pay a subscription to see anything at all on there so everyone can finally give up on it.
I think the precedent set here was that downloading a copy of a movie carried the penalty of the monetary cost of obtaining the movie lehally, so its just not worth pursuing. I might be wrong about that.
Have got two of my family members onto bitwarden and even that is a lot for the tech-illiterate. Couldn’t imagine Keepass+syncthing.
Ultimately, bitwarden is better than using hunter12 for everything like how they were.
