Companies only do things for their bottom line, not for customer demand. Also, if nobody would buy gas from Shell anymore, their gas stations would just have to be rebranded to something else. Behind the scenes the oil companies are all trading with each other.

At least, the bigger electrical companies already have it, the rest will soon follow. My coworker (who has way too many solar panels installed) got a letter from Essent that he had to pay 67 euros monthly starting October. So he switched companies, but he’ll have to figure out something else next time.
Odroid has some nice boards, though I find them pricey.
It will be technically a bit more challenging, but I don’t think you need to use the lantern power monitor software with the device. The device seems to be built around two MCP3008 IC’s, which are basic 8 channel analog to digital converters. The values from these can be read and processed (like, sent to home assistant) using a python script on the raspberry. This is the kind of minimal programming effort someone with no experience could do using chatgpt.
