I think it’s another one of those things where words and phrases change meaning over time.

Righteous is equal to justifiable. Indignant is equal to showing anger.

Logically, it should mean justifiably angry. Often times, people will just ignore and skip over the first word and will only properly read “indignant”.

I think it’s similar to when people say words like “irregardless”. They use it to mean “regardless”. If you break the word down, the double negative makes it a positive. It looks like it should read as being the same as “regarding”, but people had other ideas lol

Another fun one: “eggcorn” has been added to some dictionaries as a synonym for “acorn”.

What do you suggest then? I’m listening. There has to be some in-between that you must see.

You’re making it out as if there’s an easy solution that makes everyone happy.

It’s always odd when people stretch inclusivity to mean that absolutely everyone should be able to freely breeze past any and all possible barriers, with no effort.

Internet security, you guys. There has to be SOME minimum activity requirement, or this whole site would be swamped with an insane number of bots. There are multiple written tutorials and video tutorials that tell you exactly what to click and when, in order to sign up. How much easier does it need to be to join? What can you do beyond a video walkthrough for account creation? How the hell did they join reddit? I just don’t get it.

Sometimes these topics kind of remind me of people like the parents who argue that babies and toddlers belong at raves and busy nightclubs. Sometimes having multiple different groups are ok. You don’t usually see videos about how to fix your car on the cooking channel. You also don’t usually get proper accounting advice from random insect documentaries.

Ehhhh, some of them. Last year around Christmas, a coworker of mine went on a huge rant about how evil has seeped into everything and that the antichrist is actually everyone. Everyone everyone. YMMV.

I left because of how reddit treated the 3rd part app Devs, suddenly forcing them to cancel subscriptions halfway through the year. (They could have given the Devs a heads up, but chose not to.) I left because of the libel that was being spread about a dev. For me, it wasn’t that they wanted to charge money to use reddit, it’s how they went about it that made me leave and not return.

Of course, they also forgot about blind people and moderating tools. They then kicked many mods for voicing their opinion and/or participating the blackout, even if the subreddit in question was in agreement with them.

I don’t see Sync doing any of that, so please speak for yourself on why the migration happened.

You’re not wrong, though.

It can be easy to put up a front around other people, and hide parts of yourself. Tempting, even. If people don’t know that information about you, they can’t judge you on it.

Let’s say two strong dudes were side by side, one of them acts “tough”, and the other doesn’t care about people knowing about his fascination with antique figurines. I would always think that the second guy is tougher.

I don’t know what happened, but “tough” seems to only mean “following the buff crowd” to some people. “Tough” isn’t just muscle strength. Nearly anyone can pretend that they’re like someone else. It takes a certain kind of self confidence to let yourself be passionate about the things that you love and enjoy around others. It shows mental strength, which I think is a huge part of being “tough”.

In the earlier hypothetical, the latter guy would probably be the one to stand up for what he feels is right, regardless of what he’s told to think. He probably also wouldn’t be as easily swayed by judgemental people, and would probably be less anxious and insecure as a result.

I was referring to things like labor law changes. It’s fine when it’s someone else to a lot of people, but those people are silly to think that their jobs would be the one exclusion.

If anyone is basing their morals specifically just to go against their “rivals”, I would seriously question that person’s ethics, empathy, and reasoning skills. I’m absolutely serious about that. I would not trust that person in real life.

I would also have little sympathy for anyone who makes their own life worse just to get one in on their “rivals”. You should always think how a new law might expand in 5-10 years, and not just focus on the current emotions.

If someone who you considered to be a truly terrible person got into power next, would you feel comfortable with those groundwork protections being seen as changeable? Would you be ok with that terrible person having that level of say over your life, knowing that they would get away with it?

If you hypothetically start messing with things like your country’s ground-level human rights, it’s likely to only be a matter of time until everyone is effected by it in unpleasant ways. Everyone thinks these changes will magically stop before it hits them, but I would strongly recommend for these people to brush up on history again. How has that gone in the past?

Politics shouldn’t be some lame “gotcha” game because politics effect the real lives of many people. If anyone wants to do “gotcha” games, there are many places for those that won’t possibly end with someone dead. That “someone” may be a stranger today, but it could be your child, spouse, or best friend next time.

I think a good start before all of that would be for struggling instances to tell their user base that they are struggling.

Not going to lie, awards like that would probably make me start looking for another new platform again. I don’t want that part of reddit, personally. I want comments that are there to be there, not comments that are only there to get the most positive feedback. For me, doing this would take lemmy further away from being an open forum, and move it closer towards being a lame popularity contest. I can only see the same jokes so many times.

Bad actors may use it to manipulate you or cause problems in other aspects of your life (HELLO data breaches!).

This is a hypothetical. Think about all of the normal stuff people could see about you on Facebook. Would you also want those strangers to have your other personal information and possibly passwords? How about your boss? School? Insurance agency? Bank? Someone who works at one of those places, and still remembers that information after they clock out?

Let’s say there isn’t a data breach. They also use that information to try to get you to click ads, even if those ads might be unsafe to click.

Please answer something for me. What is it that makes you think that Zuckerberg would act in your best interests? What would stop him from turning around, selling data again? How can you know that he will keep that data in trustworthy spaces, and away from bad actors?

I wouldn’t even give my own parents access to that level of information unless I absolutely had to. I’m certainly not happier about a stranger having access to it.
