Not really. I’ve seen plenty of sponsored YT Shorts, properly tagged and everything so YT’s definitely got the infrastructure in place to monetize Shorts. But most sponsors aren’t going to pay for a Short because… well, it’s too short, so those tend to be few and far between.

However, Shorts aren’t profitable for their ability to directly monetize your content, they’re profitable for their ability to drive a LOT of new viewers to your longer-form content. The Shorts algorithm is very aggressive at referring you to channels you aren’t subscribed to, and that has helped a lot of creators get very large followings, very quickly.

Thor/Pirate Software is an excellent example of this; he’s always had a pretty decent following, but once he started putting out YT Shorts, his subscriber and view counts began skyrocketing, which has also overflown into new Twitch subscribers, as well. He started with a small but healthy community, and has blown up into a huge, multi-platform community, and has easily doubled his YT earnings since engaging with Shorts.

Shorts are very helpful to creators right now. More creators need to realize that creating YT Shorts is basically creating ads for your own YT channel, on YT, for free. It’s probably the closest thing to “IRL money dupe glitch” that there is.

The difference is that people think they understand AI. Even here in this thread, there are people confusing this for an LLM.

I don’t understand why it’s so hard to sandbox an LLM’s configuration data from it’s training data.

I think generally, assistive devices like Hawking’s wheelchair/speech synth wouldn’t qualify one for the title of “cyborg”, since they’re replacing lost/damaged functionality, and didn’t grant him any abilities not already available to the average person. Whereas Harbisson’s modification is giving him additional abilities that he didn’t previously have and are outside of the typical human experience.

Mozilla Foundation (the non-profit) and Mozilla Corporation (the for-profit) are two different entities under the Mozilla umbrella, so their staffing may be reported differently depending where you look and how they’re counting it.

I’m surprised that people consider a ~2000-person company that revenues about a half billion a year to be “small”. Mozilla is a profit-driven corporation, far separated from the vision of the hobbyist coders who founded it decades ago. The only reason they’re shutting down their Mastodon server is because it’s not making them money, not because they lack the resources to support it.

In the fine print, you’ll see it says “wheel is for illustrative purposes only, all users will receive the best prize”.

An absolute waste of time, money, and sanity. Unusable UI, no soundtrack to speak of, doesn’t support gyro aiming, and will be a major factor in your upcoming divorce. There’s almost no replay value; you get one, single permadeath run until next year’s expansion releases, and the consequences for a bad run can land you with criminal charges. There are many game-breaking exploits that can only be utilized by the most expensive of gaming PCs, so poor players will still have to follow all of the rules. Despite being sold as “free-to-play”, you are stopped every 10 minutes with an advertisement to buy the Audit Protection DLC. Avoid this game at all costs.

Outside of our very small internet bubble, yes that’s an incredibly unpopular opinion. By and large, people love Twitter, as evidenced by it still being one of the most-used platforms around.

I’ll be real, I think this is more of a problem with Fandom than Google. Fandom has been abusing the fuck out of their SEO lately, and manage to push their shitty site to the top results on almost any fiction media-related search you do now.

Yeah, Google’s AI got the preview wrong, but it probably wouldn’t have happened if Fandom wasn’t constantly injecting themselves into every single search. They allow users to post anything they want, without any vetting, and then push those inaccurate posts to the search engines.

Half the time, the page on Fandom is a 100% copy/paste of the page from Wikipedia, except with a thousand ads littering the page. Guess which one shows up first in the search results, though?

Technophobes are trying to downplay this because “AI bad”, but this is actually a pretty significant leap from GPT and we should all be keeping an eye on this, especially those who are acting like this is just more auto-predict. This is a completely different generation process than GPT which is just glorified auto-predict. It’s the difference between learning a language by just reading a lot of books in that language, and learning a language by speaking with people in that language and adjusting based on their feedback until you are fluent.

If you thought AI comments flooding social media was already bad, it’s soon going to get a lot harder to discern who is real, especially once people get access to a web-connected version of this model.
