When I was 8 I was making a “video game” (a complete bundle of code trash 😉) and I would copy people’s code and everything would melt down. I would spend hours debugging just to realize I needed to pass an extra argument or indent or something.

I have worked on a lot of real time simulation with python glue. It is… not fun. I’m a better programmer for it though.
Lua is not as common as python. Every team I’ve worked on knew X and python. C++, Java, JS, or node, and then also python.

While you may be correct, if you’re on a dogmatic team, work with dogmatic people, or are a part of a dogmatic company, you probably need to avoid duplication. This is because duplicate code is an easy thing for a reviewer to nitpick and reviewing code can sometimes be more about showing off and less about ensuring code quality.
