One of my bosses has a concept of “T-shaped developers”, which means you know everything a little, and have depth on one thing.

7months: ouch, sorry to hear. I wish I had some words of wisdom to share.

It works great if nobody ever leaves or dies or takes vacation. We try to discourage siloization of projects and emphasize cross-training - it makes the job more interesting, gives people more/better tools to solve problems with, etc. And anytime the business objects we mention the project where X left and how painful it is to get new anything added/enhanced because none of those tenets were involved.

However, all bets are off with offshore contractors. Some want to learn, some simply don’t care and will do the bare minimum.

There’s one out there, named something like kangaroo, where they actually have signed firmware, and a hardware read/write switch (most of the time, the read/write switch is software based) parentheses.

But if they’re having to manually edit 700 of 1000 orders, then it’s like saying “self driving but we have someone take over every 5 minutes”. Which is extremely misleading when they say “it’s AI!!!”

Also for iOS, News Explorer. It uses iCloud to sync between your devices, everything is on device, and it will even somehow do Reddit feeds! (Uh, I mean, if you still do that, maybe…). One time payment. Glorious.

You can set a background as an image. And if you’re worried about it not being convincing enough, you can use a greenscreen

Actually, their new AI thing is actually useful: stays on-device, and summarizes web pages and videos.

But yes, they could stand to spend more money on the browser, and less on their CEO and other non-browser things.

Yeah, no kidding. I just bought tickets for a $15 show that has multiple bands and included a overseas band. I mentioned to them that they should’ve upped the prices to $20.

Also: Sturgeon‘s law still applies: “90% of everything is crap“. Music is so amazingly easy to make these days you can do it on your phone (and I believe a Grammy nominated/winning album did so). Which means that there are literally thousands of albums every year, And so there will be a lot of crap. But between Bandcamp and Spotify and SoundCloud (and so on, even self-hosting), this is the freaking plutonium age if you like new music. There is literally so much that you can’t possibly keep up with it, even in sub genres. And there are some amazing gems coming out daily

Yeah, I know I’ve seen some bands release right before BCF to make the most of it.

That’s what I do. Find stuff over the month, give it some listens to see if it sticks, then buy baby buy. :)
