Those 'taters ain’t gonna count themselves!
He does a years worth of updates in like 3 or 4 weeks and then takes off for like 6 months. For me that’s acceptable. When he does get around to it, he pushes updates like the Flash on speed and fixes nearly all flagged issues in addition to adding new features that have been requested.
I never had issues with Amazon support. To be fair, the last time I needed support was over 4 years ago, but still. I got to chat with some real person relatively quickly who managed to address the issue swiftly.
Volkswagens EV platform is a mess because the CEO responsible for the pivot to EV within VW, was only allowed to implement it if he stopped being the CEO. So the next guy half assed the 80B$ pivot to EV, leading to VW being one of the worst performers amongst EV producing OEMs.
So now they are on the market to buy whatever is needed to get them out of the hot mess they created themselves.
I used to like mac OS when I used it on a macbook as a daily driver, years ago (haven’t owned a mac in a decade now). But recently I helped my mom set up a new macbook and I found it unwield.
I’m also with you on the Ubuntu and gnome front, although a buddy of mine swears with it. I just don’t like it. Not sure why, I have tried to work with Ubuntu + GNOME several times and I always end up switching to a different build.
This law, if it were to pass, is 100% guaranteed to be shot down by the European courts for invasion of privacy.
I use an HP microserver gen 8, which I bought second hand (300$) and upgraded with a better CPU (20$ from ebay) and extra ram (80$) and 4 2TB SSD’s (100$ per). I installed Windows server on it because I just wanted it to work in a way I’m familiar with, but a colleague of mine installed Synology OS on it. You can use the cd drive bay for the OS disk (with some tweaking). Since you already have the disks, this would fit your budget.
What’s BOFH? Bitch Ole Fucking Hippie?
Edit: Ah, bastard operator from hell.
What’s your source on the spacex team distracting him? I can’t find anything supporting that. I do find some interviews from anonymous employees saying it’s calmer now that he’s so focused on twitter.

Well, I learned something new today. Now I’m happy I don’t have a tail.
I just use an HP Microserver gen 8 with upgraded cpu and ram. But yea, just a relatively cheap computer is all 98% of the people really need, as long as you can configure enough disks. NAS’es are way overpriced with shitty hardware.
I checked it yesterday as I was suffering through a meeting that should have been an email and the content quality on reddit these days is appalling. I don’t have an account anymore, so I was just browsing r/all, but still, it’s very noticeable compared to a year ago.
I can imagine they don’t want accountants or IT people looking at porn while they work though. Their own websites are probably not filtered, but whether the work is for a porn site or a car manufacturer, you prefer them focussing on their work. For a content reviewer though, it’s a different story.
That being said, there is not enough money in the world that would convince me to become a content reviewer. The shit they have to sit through is often utterly vile and traumatizing. Here is an article about a facebook moderator as an example: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-57088382
My setup isn’t featured, but it’s basically neutral good with the laptop below it in the middle.
Microsoft needs to get its shit together because reboots were a huge point of contention when I was setting up automated patching at my company.
Mine will just bite your toes, but apart from that they are pretty mellow. Although one does bite my wifes ankles when she (the cat) is hungry.
This is way too accurate. With a buddy I even have what our wifes call playdates, where we are messing around with proxmox, containers and linux distros. We both have some old poweredge servers, laptops, raspberry pies and old phones to mess around with. Nothing useful has come out of that so far, although we’re preparing a lemmy and mastodon instance, so we’re getting there.
I have had to contact the vmware enterprise support several times and while it was tedious to do so, they always managed to help us out, including when we had datastore locked vhd’s after a storage crash.
