Not all instances/clients show those display names. I’m on kbin.earth and it doesn’t, I just see the underlying account name. It sounds like you’re seeing the same. But if I go look at Wheelchar’s profile on lemmy.world, which is their instance, it shows both “WheelchairArtist” and “@WheelcharArtist”

I don’t know what the actual terminology here is. The display name is “WheelchairArtist” but the underlying account name - the one that shows up in the URL if you go to their profile - is missing the i. I have no idea if that’s a typo on account creation or something intentional.

I don’t think that that’s necessarily true. Let’s say someone designs a rucksack because they find the existing options on the market uncomfortable. They produce them on a small scale and they get fairly popular. Then Amazon sees it, copies it, mass produces it for less than the original designer could, and makes sure that any time someone searches for a rucksack on Amazon their version appears first in the list. I think it’s reasonable to say that the original designer lost something there

It was 2020 on the Honda Legend that they first did it, vs 2023 on the Mercedes, but Mercedes was indeed the first to actually get it certified in the US

I assume that’s about the self-driving part rather than the EV part. Honda was the first to actually sell something that met the requirements for the (American) Society of Automotive Engineers’ Levels of Driving Automation that counted as the the human in the driver’s seat not driving

Imagine if this becomes a trend though. Every decent-sized website has an exclusivity deal with one search engine. At that point either google becomes the only functional search engine because it successfully monopolised too much of the web, or search engines in general become useless becaue every one of them is missing too many websites

It seems like you mean a post-scarcity society rather than a currencyless one. Sex work done to earn a living is still done to earn a living if it’s in a society that distributes goods and services in another way. I’d hope that the sex worker in question is getting personal fulfilment from it, but unless their basic needs are covered regardless then it seems foolishly optimistic to assume that it’s the case
