I never really considered there’d be useful content on there.
I never really considered there’d be useful content on there.
I don’t really get why people scroll through short-form video, but at least there’s an opensource alternative in the works… Will be interesting to see if they allow non-loops users to contribute bandwidth because hosting all of those videos will be expensive af.
I just block anybody posting news about USAmerican politics and any community/magazine focused on it. It weeds out USAmericans and their sympathisers.
It’ll continue until inauguration (January?)
I think, possibly like many others, since BlueSky came from the creator of Twitter, I do not trust it. At the moment, I don’t even think there’s anything anybody can say about it that would make me want to even test it. It just feels tainted.
Also, what is BlueSky promising? A new Twitter? The fediverse is making so much more possible: new Twitter(s), new Youtube, new Instagram, new Reddit, and it’s even being put into Wordpress, maybe even Tumblr, and who knows what else. How does BlueSky fit into that puzzle?
People will start cutting themselves on razorthin smartphones instead.
The fediverse really is filled with programmers… that nearly looks like math but the type I learned at school.
El oh el
Man, Mozilla used to be nice but they have just turned so shit. I hope the core firefox people quit and make a new browser so that I can donate directly to the new browser instead of some middle man (or woman right now) who siphons off the money (aka Mozilla).
I mean… you could contribute and write the feature
For users, maybe, not for content creators. They still want to get paid and on the fediverse, the only thing you can rely on right now is people going through the hassle of clicking on a donate button, opening a third party website, logging in there, and following the procedure to donate. On youtube it’s just, users just have to watch videos.
Oh, I see. That confused me, but I get it now. My bad.
Sure, the reactionaries would sign something to not federate, but if threads and youtube start federating, you think things are going to stay the same?
I still use Instagram. I will not use Instagram if it had activitypub support.
wat?
Do you understand what the fediverse does? Do you need to login to lemmy.world in order to make a comment with your lemmy.ca account? Do you need to login to mastodon.social to see responses from mastodon.social users?
To elaborate: it’s not about gaining the users from the fediverse: nobody give a shit about us. It’s about taking away users from other big platforms.
Imagine if MKBHD realised he could do all his media relations from a single account. He could post a promotional picture (or video) on his youtube account and have it be visible on instagram, threads, twitter, tiktok, etc. . Comments from tiktok accounts would show up on the youtube video to youtube users on youtube.
Or a tiktok user uploading their short videos would have them show up on youtube shorts and insta (/threads) at the same time. Again, engagement from any platform would show up on one single account.
That’s not the danger, the danger is there being even less incentive to move to opensource alternatives. If you can have one account on e.g youtube with which you can talk to people on threads, send pictures to insta, and receive comments from everywhere, why move?

Stop asking Black people for evidence of the anti-Blackness. Believe them: it’s real. If you want to see specific examples, do the work yourself to find them rather than asking Black people to do it for you.
IMO examples are exactly what should be provided on this page. The page would be much better if it were just 3-4 headings that looked like
Heading
Example quote 1
Improvement suggestion
Example quote 2
Improvement suggestion
Description and context
Also, why limit it to “blackness”. What in the world is “blackness”? Sounds like black royalty “Your Blackness, how may I be of help today?”.
Anyway, I’m not sure what prompted this, which is exactly why I ask for examples. I quit reddit (never was on twitter) during the exodus and honestly, the biggest change I’d like is for USAmericans to get their own instance where they can talk about their problems. Black US Americans deal with very different things than Africans and Europeans with African descent.
They are walking billboards.
