Yeah, Lemmy has address to this by just having an incredibly glitchy algorithm (look at this post with five up votes from four months ago, it deserves to be on the front page). No one can game it because no one understands it.

People throw around the word too much, there are actual Nazis around and we need to reserve the term just for their special brand of evil. Otherwise the phrase gets so watered down as to essentially become meaningless.
Otherwise they are just rightwing dipshits.
If we slept 23 hours a day I don’t think we would have developed to the level of technology that we’re now at.
We simply wouldn’t have had enough time awake yet to achieve anything very much.
Eventually an asteroid would hit or Yellowstone would erupt and we would have probably only got to the medieval age, and then we go extinct.
There’s only a certain number of people in the world, and only a subset of them have easy access to the internet, and only a subset of them have disposable income.
Yet infinite profits are the expectation somehow.
No because they’re only doing this for Instagram users who are located in the United States. It hasn’t launched anywhere else yet.
Probably because it will be quite illegal in Europe so they probably are not going to do it for European users but it hasn’t launched there yet anyway so we don’t know.
The rule of GDPR is €10,000 or 5% of annual gross earnings (not net) per incident, whichever is greater.
Even the likes of Meta don’t want to deal with that kind of fine hence why Threads has not been released in the EU.
So it is totally achievable, the problem is the US government don’t actually want to fix the problem because of lobbying.
Setting things up on fediverse is overly complicated and could be made easier.
The biggest problem is it really isn’t all that clear what the pros and cons are various instances are, and the truth is that for the most part with the exception of a few particular instances it really doesn’t matter.
What might make the most sense is to have a website people can sign up on and then it just registers their account on one of a few instances to spread the load. Obviously that list I would have to be curated so it didn’t include obvious problematic instances, but it wouldn’t be that hard to do that. And that would make it as easy as threads is which basically is just an instance when all said and done.
I know this night sound like a dumb comment, but it’s kind of worth thinking about.
Since it isn’t an iOS app, they could probably make a version of it which isn’t so iOS inspired, because frankly that layout is confusing to anyone who isn’t used to it.
I know Apple have a way of doing things, and they’re like apps to look a certain way, but if you’re not used to it it’s not intuitive at all.
I can only base this on my own government but I’d say about only a small fraction of the right wing party are full on Nazi’s, the rest are just awful people but they’re not evil. Although it is hard to tell because quite a lot in the greedy, which from a distance can’t look the same.
