I think OSINT, Open-source intelligence, would be more akin to trolling on social media. They’re the ones who crawl through Instagram and shit to ID Russian soldiers locations when they post selfies and the likes.
Holy crap everything you were saying was hitting word chords in me, so relatable, then you said Monticello. I just moved to Earl Park, was going to have to decide between Century Link and satellite, then Mainstream came through like a week before I closed on the house and installed cheap fast fiber.
It’s just a case of different opinions, I think. Or perhaps they think reddit having 100’s of millions of users is creating the problems, and that they won’t exist here if those same voices came to Lemmy. But I would mostly just say it’s two different groups of people asking for two different things.
I’m in the boat that Lemmy has fully replaced reddit for me and I don’t feel the need to go convincing more people to jump ship. The people who cared about the health of Reddit as a platform have already come to Lemmy, the people who don’t, or need the massive userbase to use a website? They can stay there.
What? No, he’s saying they’re bringing reddit behaviors with them as they leave reddit, and he hopes they’ll stop.
Right? It’s a basic expectation that you have a phone number for everything. Work, doctor, etc. But we still treat it like having a phone is a luxury, for entertainment and convenience. Buy it yourself and figure it out yourself!
Hell, even restaurants are more and more replacing menus with QR codes
If you still have good computer access, you could make a Google phone number. Pretty much what it sounds like, gives you a free phone number, you can check messages / calls all on desktop
Would it make any sense to stand up my own instance, federated with what I want, follow the communities I want from other instances, and just ignore the rest? Is there any reason to not do that?
I fit none of your 3 categories! But I would say with the slightly less convenient joining process compared to most social media, the Fediverse is going to have to built up by people willing to take that burden, at least at first
I imagine they could if they knew exactly what you did and when, but if it doesn’t get discovered until later and nobody knows what happened, it would probably be a bitch to figure out
