So its about big corpos spreading misinformation and trying to kill something small to earn more money. Lemmy (and the fediverse) wouldn’t know anything about that, right?
A classic nerd from Norway.

Heres a diagram of what the whole nerd-font set contains: https://www.nerdfonts.com/assets/img/sankey-glyphs-combined-diagram.png
I’m using it for my oh-my-posh theme and posh-git. Showing icons for git status and product icon for the remote service (github/bitbucket/azure). There are also themes that uses the weather icons, I’ve seen. And probably a bunch of other uses for someone more creative than me.
I might be wrong but I thought the official version only had “Powerline with extra symbols”. Not Font Awesome, Material Design Icons, Weather, Devicons, Octicons, Font Logos, Pomicons, or Codeicons?
Delugia Code. Which is just Cascadia Code merged with Nerd Fonts. Useful for terminals. One could also just get the Nerd font patched with Cascadia Code, they are almost the same.
If you check out the opencollective link in lemmy worlds sidebar, theres a budget breakdown there. And how much they gain in donations.
This is Norway. You’ll have to be inside a mountain to not get a signal here. Phone-connected infrastructure is everywhere. I’ve climbed the highest mountain in Telemark and paid with my phone at the kiosk at the top.
All you have to do is just not participate in the data collection by saying “no” to that stuff.
But honestly, I love to use my phone for everything. Love not having to talk to people to get stuff done. Not deal with queues. Not wait for the server to be ready for me to pay before I leave. Not carry around paper tickets, or printed maps. Not having to find a seven-eleven to buy bus tickets.
I am worried for those who for some reason can’t use a smart phone. A lot of this doesnt have a website alternative. Most of it has paper/plastic/in-person-alternatives still, true, rarely advertised though. I am worried the analog ways disappearing eventually since very few uses it.
Yeah. If calling/sms was all I used my phone for, I would probably still use my old Lumia Windows phone even as the app builders stopped supporting it.
But because its for public transport tickets, accessing the local library, accessing the gym center, ordering at restaurants or food delivery, sending money to family, car navigation, syncing my exercise watch, being invited to social events, streaming my cloud saved music library, rent a city-bike, check my medicine prescriptions…
I need a phone that is up to date. How is people living without a smart phone today?
If pants are all that keeps massive amounts of dick jokes back, I’m for pants.
Then we got bots talking to bots about articles written by bots, moderated by bots. Its gonna be great.
They can. They have no problems doing it for a well-advertised product who has somehow convinced them that “everyone uses it”.
Nah. Bug, I think. Happens often with communities outside your server. They will still show in your feed.
I’ll wait and see if Facebook is even gonna end up doing federation correctly. Maybe they wont.
Impersonal social media like reddit, lemmy, twitter, and mastodon is nice sometimes. We can have a conversation without the conventions, responsibilities, and limitations that comes with real life socializing.
I can decide for myself how long I want to think of a reply. And a reply isn’t even expected, I can choose not to respond if something makes me uncomfortable to talk about. Nor do I have to wait my turn to converse, or be spoken over. I dont have to remember faces or names. Nor remember peoples background or recent events or drama they’ve been involved in. Theres no judgment on age, looks, ability, or gender (unless I disclose it of course). And its possible to fact check stuff while discussing, no need to wait until after to realize someone is trying to misinform.
Imho, all this turns toxic when companies involve “recommended feeds” like they often do.
