Every generation thinks they invented the things they appropriated
I’m not sure what’s worse…implying that 99% of humans are insects or that the 1% is better than the rest
I feel like dragged predates slammed as slang but it definitely wasn’t popular headline material
It surely wasn’t random. There’s people out there who don’t want you to have anything for free
To add your last paragraph - today’s robot may be worse but next year’s robot might not be. And with how far Boston Dynamics (and others) have come in such a short time, it’s not hard to imagine that future getting here soon.
Corporations have shown time and time again they fire people by the thousands as soon as it’s financially viable and since this tech will be implemented quickly across the industry, those ex-employees won’t be able to find work. Governments need to start taking UBI seriously if they don’t want to massive civil unrest.
As much as I cringe at the “come and take it” crowd, a lot of them work these at-risk jobs. They will take their anger at their ex-employee and aim it at the government.
Hey to each their own! Apple’s hardware design in that era always makes me think of crappy protective cases. I really didn’t like how the opaque parts were behind thick clear shells. Or like…have you ever seen wooden furniture in a public place that has like 5mm of protective clear coat on it to the point that it looks plastic?
Sorry for the essay, I had not thought about what I specifically disliked until now lol
I found that design hideous at the time and I guess things haven’t changed in that regard
I love love love the DIY electronics scene but for a device that’s meant to be held…I dunno. Ergonomics are usually an afterthought if considered at all. I can’t imagine a DIY e-reader being comfortable to use
Note: NOT shilling for Amazon here, I will never buy another Kindle
Maybe… I’ve heard some absolutely awful soundbars. They trade sound quality for volume
Somewhat related: I think the Sony and Samsung ones are an upgrade but that’s a low bar and they sound like shit for the price.
I haven’t heard on all, but the Sonos Arc/Beam/Playbar are the only (all-in-one) soundbars I’ve heard that I would say sound great.
I’m not saying it’s incorrect but a least two of these logos are wrong and reduces my trust in the reporting
You do not know what you’re talking about. The $50 no name soundbar from Walmart might not be an improvement but soundbars from Sonos (and others) are MAJOR upgrades.
A surround sound system will likely sound better (again not the $100 combo pack from Walmart) but requires placing speakers in the proper places…which most people do not even do
Thanks, saving that to read later!
I’ve heard this argument before and it doesn’t make sense to me. Memes include words and people generally don’t express nuanced ideas through memes. They’re all about saying as little as possible using a slightly altered version of a scripted scene. It’s a devolution in language, not an extension of it. And it’s a cancerous one - you get more attention online if you appeal to the lowest common denominator by using a meme template so why think on the subject any further beyond that on? Hell, why even make something yourself when you can copy and paste it from your favorite meme bucket (Instagram, reddit, etc)
My theory is that memes made the internet worse but nobody wants to talk about. If I were getting my masters in behavioral science, I would be studying the impact of memes on Internet culture.
No but having misinterpreted your message once myself and then seeing the replies, I was just letting you know.
I think when people read “this site” in the comments, they assume it refers to the link itself. So while the rest of your comment makes it clear, you try to connect it to the (incorrect) assumption. Like 404media isn’t a very pretty site so I can see why someone might insult the aesthetics?
I don’t know, I wasn’t picking a fight or anything
You are almost definitely getting downvoted because it sounds like you’re saying 404media is not legit. I realize that you’re not, but I’ll admit I interpreted it incorrectly at first.
Seems like you’ve experienced all the reasons I’ve never considered getting one despite thinking it’s a really cool product lol
I get a new phone every couple of years and aside from the battery, I seriously doubt I’d ever upgrade a module in the fairphone. I would just choose the best parts when I bought it initially and use it as-is until it was toast.
Laptops, on the other hand…if I ever need to buy one, it’ll be a Framework.
Fairphone 5?
I’ve got an idea as to why.
I went to mastodon.social and see a Linux meme, some heavy political commentary, and a bunch of posts about mastodon being better than Twitter.
I then went to bluesky.app and see some political riffing, cute animals, a comic, some jokes, a company, and even Don Lemon.
The average person checking them both out for the first time, mastodon is nerd shit and Bluesky is normal shit.
