the problem is its easier to use because there is virtually no federation. Ive yet to see a user thats not from the flagship bsky.social instance
Because they are all worse than google in many areas, especially for local results
Oh of course, the apple chips are faster, and this is likely a combination of more efficiency thanks to the newer process node and apple being able to optimize the chips and power draw much better because they make everything. Apple can also afford to use larger chips because they make a profit on the entire computer, not just the processor itself.
Exactly, the apple chips excel at low power tasks and will consume basically nothing doing them. It’s also good for small bursty tasks, but for long lived intensive tasks it behaves basically the same as an equivalent x86 chip. People don’t seem to know that these chips can easily consume 80-90W of power when going full tilt.
Concerning.
Now that I think of it yeah, my work mac simply shows a popup telling me to kill an app. It just doesn’t deal with high mem pressure lol
The chip and OS won’t do shit when your ram is saturated by electron apps taking 800MB each. Maybe MacOS behaves better under very high memory pressure than windows does, but it doesn’t mean it’s okay to rip off consumers. That whole 8GB on mac = 16GB on windows has been bullshit all along, and is mostly based on people looking at the task manager and seeing high ram usage on windows (which is a good thing)
You can’t understand his ironman levels of genius because of your below-billionnaire mind
Only keeping the regular cameras was a genius move to hold back their full autonomy plans
XMPP Works fine when it’s setup or when you don’t manage the hosting, but God is it painful to self host an xmpp server. Then you have the clients that are all basically 10 years old at this point, except maybe Dino for linux. It even needs a special setup to work on restricted networks via port 80/443 because it wants port 5222 and 5223, and let me tell you, I’ve spent over a week trying to setup that reverse proxy, it was hell. I’ve never Hosted matrix so maybe it’s worse, but this isn’t the end of my gripes with xmpp. Most basic communication features in 2024 such as replies reactions quoting threads etc.etc. are unsupported ootb, and you need both a client that supports the extensions (often very slow to adapt “new” standards AND a server that has enabled the plugin for that feature.
Xmpp is plain old, and like many like to think, no xmpp was not “triple-E’d”, people simply stopped using it because it’s really inconvenient and the UX is horrible.
The entire point of AI as it stands right now is to allow more of those layoffs. Anyone telling otherwise is a liar.
Also I hate how currently, AI is used to remove the fun parts of creating things at a computer. Take coding for example, I think I can speak for many people when I say that the fun part of their job, is not the planning or the meetings, it’s the actual coding and stumbling upon a hard problem to solve. Now with AI you the human will only keep the boring parts of the job!
He obviously meant the people commenting online, not the maintainers
It definitely is amongst the cleanest energy sources we have today, especially when the choice for most is either oil, coal or nuclear, the choice is easy. Hydro, solar or wind are often not viable because of climate or location reasons. Not to mention that all of these need to be built using concrete, that is not unique to nuclear. Also important is that hydro electricity also dramatically alters the area, killing many animals and moving many species out of their home.
It is very clean. The image below shows what 20 years worth of spent nuclear fuel looks like at the former Maine Yankee plant. This is way smaller than most supermarkets in north america, let alone their parking lots!
To be fair that would not necessarily be because of the blockchain part, more because of the decentralized/federated nature of this theorical network
One of the rare use cases of a blockchain actually being useful. A federated internet archive that uses a blockchain to validate that the saved data has not been altered by a malicious actor trying to tamper with proofs
That would be really cool but horribly inefficient because of the sheer amount of storage required
The bigger reason is that most sites use Google AdSense for showing user ads. Most SEO bullshit sites are basically just empty content as a pretext to show said AdSense ads. Google will rank up these websites because they directly make them money via the revenue cut they take. Simple as that.
Oh yeah that’s true as well. Like it’s more accepted when a 60 year old dates a 50 year old than when a 30 year old dates a 20 year old. It’s the same gap, but more frequently seen. That’s the thing with cumulative numbers!! The more they go up the smaller the ll% difference in
