I don’t know if it is new, but it is in the help files when I tried to figure out why it required both confirming an email and the phone.

The worst part is that they act like you can set up an account without a number, but then it acts like there is ‘suspicious activity’ and requires you to verify with the phone immediately.
Just rant into this yesterday trying to set up a work account as my work phone is not a mobile phone with sms.
Was registering really suspicious?
My only complaint about discord is that it requires a mobile phone number for an account, and you can’t use the same number for multiple accounts.
I want separate personal (with a silly account name) and professional (with my name) accounts, but only have one phone.
And not everyone should.
Somebody spent the money on a research team and five years is why it is very attainable now.
Someone trying to write the code from scratch would still take a research team and years to replicate it from scratch.
Hard disagree. It is their job, amd while not doing their job could affect me, that does not make it my job.
If I will get grief because them not doing their job holds me up, then I blame them without any hesitation, because otherwise their job would become my job if I tried to make up for them.
This assumes people are individually responsible and it is not a group effort where I should be helping them and they will be helping me. Then it is a shared job.
My first thought!
We did prepare, and other than some people who just contrarians who refuse to care about anyone else the general population did follow directions for the most part and we were able to avoid our health care systems completely collapsing.
If you didn’t know, there have always been members of society that actively work against any kind of communal inconvenience that is for the greater good. During the (misnamed) Spanish Flu epidemic there were anti-maskers and people who intentionally undermined any public heath initiatives.
Taxed at a flat percentage of income or progressively without caps, 75% of people UBI will be a net increase in income over what their taxes would increase. It should be an easy sell unless there is a lot of misinformation or demonizing of low income people.
Of course people also don’t understand how single payer would save most people thousands per year by cutting out all the for profit companies, since misinformation is such a problem.
It starts with the assumption that raising taxes is unreasonable.
Bringing taxes up to their 20th century averages is completely reasonable, as they were highest during the time period where actual business growth was the highest.
What does that blatantly misleading quote come from?
Stockton’s experiment in guaranteed income — which paid more than 100 residents $500 a month with no strings attached — likely improved the recipients’ financial stability and health, but those effects were much less pronounced during the pandemic, researchers found.
“We were able to say definitively that there are certain changes in terms of mental health and physical health and well-being that are directly attributed to the cash,” Castro told CalMatters on Tuesday. “Year 2 (2020) showed us some of those limits, where $500 a month is not a panacea for all social ills.”
Being less pronounced is not the same thing as failing and the whole article supported the program being effective. Looks like maybe you misremembered this article?
I’m still not sure if he was actually in favor or just pandering, but at least he put it on the stage.
There are quite a few things I enjoy in music, literature, and hobbies where a significant portion of the people who also like it are unbearable by making it part of their personality instead of something they enjoy. Anyone who identifies as a fan of something instead of saying they enjoy something is likely to be unbearable about that thing.
I enjoy some Dylan songs because of the melody since the words are gibberish to me.
Overplayed and over hyped, hearing their music frequently reminds me of their fans who gush about how so very significant and genius everything they ever did was. Their fandom drags down their music for me, and their music is just OK without all the social context of when it was made.
They are the same picture.
It has been massively successful in a bunch of locations. Where are you seeing reports that it failed?
For example, restaurant probably aren’t possible if waiters and back of house are all paid 30/h.
Somehow in every country other than the US they are able to pay restaurant staff a living wage.
That is what the help files say, but when I tried to register a work account yesterday it did the verify you are human, then said there was something suspicious and sent the email verification, then said there was something suspicious and is now requiring a phone verification even though I did not enter a phone number.
At no point was I ever signed in and able to even pick a channel. This all happened while trying to log in for the first time through the browser at work with my work email. I guess that someone else might not hit that phone requirement as I only tried to do the registration once, but it is in no way limited to joining a particular channel.
