Japan is slowly getting better, but it’s a long road ahead. There are more laws and they’re actually enforcing some of them with regard to harassment and hours worked (a lot of people would clock out and keep working, but they’re trying to make the penalties bit enough to stop it from what I hear. My company is certainly strict about it).
It’d be nice to have european-level vacations before I retire, but that I don’t see happening
Yeah, Google, Meta, Amazon, and probably others really need to get broken up and get proper antitrust treatment. I say this even as someone who holds stock (like a total of 5 shares, so not much) in a couple of those. I used to dream of working at Google as well, but that dream died quite some time ago based on their actions and culture.
Would you like fries with that for only a dollar more?
killing ab blockers
I might finally get a six-pack!
As someone who started in tech support in 2000 and is a software developer now: absolutely not.
All I see in the thumbnail is delicious, forbidden makizushi
Nice! Thank you!
I will learn to build a mouse and write my own damn drivers first.
I always said “in GIN icks” (gin like the alcohol) based on someone else’s pronunciation years ago. I never realized it was meant to have anything to do with “engine” as a result.
Well, certainly less ominous than being based on where I’ll die.
I mostly just had the alt+whatever codes memorized when I was typing French or German, but I didn’t always have a numpad when I was using laptops away from home. I just ended up using charmap and never realized newer windows had any replacement (although I’m on mac for work and also use linux for both work and some home stuff now as well so not spending as much time in Windows).
Failing that win+r and type charmap

Especially when the job market contracted with all the IT company layoffs, some people may be stuck in jobs they hate because opportunities are few and they’d rather not be homeless or have their kids not have food and so on.
Ah, yeah; hat would make sense
I get the feeling, but if the business has no say in getting recommended, aren’t you just punishing businesses that may not even know this program exists? That would suck for very small businesses.
Edit: my brain was thinking recommendations not paid ads so please disregard.
This was in Tokyo, but the owner travelled a lot and quite probably had them in either Australia or Thailand.
A place I used to go had sour cream and chili sauce fries on the menu.
Where I grew up, we only ever gave the last four digits of our number because the whole town and then some was the same. Later, they changed the area code since it was running out of numbers and then we moved to 10-digit dialing. I remember how weird it felt when things like long distance calls just kinda stopped being a thing
