Why does it actually matter? If you’re that important, you should have your own domain and instance
Email works well and is federated
Threads posts wouldn’t really appear on lemmy unless they deliberately format the post to tag a community. And they wouldn’t be able to see replies either.
Any instances that actually show public downvotes? I’ve seen people talk about them but haven’t seen them yet
I actually had an idea that this could be a solution, is just have votes appear from fake accounts. Glad someone implemented it!
Paul even writes in his first epistle to Timothy (5:23)
No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.
This was because people were getting sick from drinking plain water (as they didn’t have the same water purifying technology then) so it was common to add a bit of wine to cleanse it antibacterial. Grape juice in this context would make zero sense. Would also hark back to what Luke wrote in The Acts of the Apostles 10:9-16 regarding a vision Peter received:
The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray. And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.” This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.
Although, this doesn’t really work in regard to the Mormon thinking that some guy can override the Bible and that the book of Mormon overrides it. Reminds me of a video a mormon made reading through John’s gospel according to Joseph Smith or something where he adds in extra stuff through some claimed revelation/restoration. There were comments of people saying “okay but there are no evidence for these texts existing from the early church” and the guy just responded with “but Joseph smith said”
Eternity received an update fairly recently
What I find mad about this is that the Jesus they claim to follow (and totally not Joseph Smith who they really follow) drank wine and commanded His followers to do so
There are people I still need to keep in contact with. That’s why
Because google and meta are creepy companies. I still use Instagram. I will not use Instagram if it had activitypub support.
I don’t see how they could harm the fediverse as is. I don’t see how embrace extend extinguish could work, as if they extinguish, then the fediverse would just return to how it is now. There’s no way that people currently on Mastodon would decide to move to threads, as most are on there because they don’t trust big social media companies
lemmygrad.ml, hexbear.net, truthsocial.com, x.com, etc
This gave me confidence as well, thank you 😆
I think it’s important if people don’t get too attached to a fediverse account, especially right now. Although it would be nice to see easier solutions to self hosting. I’ve actually never managed to get a federated app to work via self hosting. Even if there was an instance which you simply could plug(point) your domain into, and have that work if you care about your identity.
Main concern though would be communities
I mean the whole machine. Unless I cage it to the floor
If someone nicks it, can’t they just use boltcutters? Could hide the drive under the floorboards theoretically
I used to try and compile from source first. Was good experience. Don’t see why I should bother now, though 🤣
update: It’s all working perfectly!
Ah, that goes on my main server. I’m learning.
Ooh that’s nice. Wasn’t Kbin trying to do this?
