    What is politics though?

Sure, it’s about an election or a politician, it’s political.

If I complain about the sewage system, is that political? (Could be now in the UK!)

If I talk about the job/housing market, is that politics?

If I discus new bus routes is that? (Local politics!)

Almost everything is or can be made political if someone tries.

You know most of the world isn’t USA, right? I’m sick of American politics, and while it is important to talk and mobilise against conservatives, I also don’t want it to be >50% of what I see here. Not wanting to see American politics doesn’t mean you’re privileged, it might mean you’re just not American.

(And also, people who are American and will be disadvantaged by conservative politics still might want to relax and enjoy their free time without having to think about all the bullshit that’s happening to them. No-one should be fighting for their rights 100% of the time, we all deserve some time to relax and have fun as well, otherwise what are we even fighting for?)

A lot of folks on lemmy.world complain about how many posts are about the US and/or politics. I understand it can be tedious. But there are hundreds of lemmy instances to choose from, and some of those are not federated with lemmy.world, and some of the clients let you block instances you don’t like. Get out there and explore and try things.

There’s a number of tags that could be useful, like politics, sports (or specific sports, though I’d filter all of them, just not my thing), or pick something.

It would also be a useful way to setup different collections, like right now I want to see posts about cooking - I could have a view with just “cooking” tags (a category that could have further tags, eg “Cooking, veggies” or “Cooking, Pork”, etc).

Of course this would require voluntary and consistent use of the tagging system, but I think over time most posters would embrace such a thing.

A couple days ago I decided to just start blocking people who post political crap, especially where it doesn’t belong (particularly political tirades or rants). Such people provide no value, so no need to have them in my feed.
